Yoga Poetry & Words of Wisdom

Towards the Light

By moonlight, or starlight, or in the sun's bright rays,
I journey, guiding my way by keeping to the light as best I can.

Sometimes all seems dark, then I remember
how the poppy turns its head,
follows the sun's passage across the sky,
then rests in night's cool shadows,
bowing in thanks to whatever power makes the stalk stand straight and strong,
drawing deep from its roots a wine dark love.

In moonlight, the garden glows, silvering the poppies.

And even by starlight you can tell shades of darkness if you try.
So do not lose heart when vision dims.

Journey forth as best you can- bloom when you are able, rest when you must,
keep faith, keep always towards the light

Embrace each of your senses in turn;
Seeing as being touched by light.
Hearing as immersion in an ocean of sound.
Tasting as enlightening.Smelling as knowing.
Touching as electrifying.

Then leave all these behind,
Enter the spaciousness of the heart,
Intimate with the unknowable

Flames arise from fire
Rays emanate from the sun
So it is that you and I shine forth

Gaze out at space,
Aware of multicolored luminosity
Permeating everywhere....

The blue sky, filled with rays from the Sun.
The night sky, dark, and yet crisscrossed by
The light of a billion suns.
How can that be?

Al space is the same,
Inside you and far away.
Lose yourself in it,
And find your Self

The above inspiration is a sutra from The Radiance Sutras, Tantra Yoga Teachings For Opening To The Divine In Everyday Life.

Yoga practice is like life
Each circumstance in which we find ourselves is like a pose.
Some poses are hard to hold, others are pleasant.
It is how we hold the pose that determines whether or not we will suffer or grow
And whether or not we will listen to the drama of the ego or the wisdom of the spirit.

Be true to life by being true to this moment

LOST

Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying here
No trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.

Parallax

You never know
What will change the world-
a word lightly spoken,
a touch from a stranger,
a glance from a woman
in a red dress,
or a flower opening in your garden.
What you do know
down deep in your bones
is that the cells have
lined up in a new arrangement,
muscles grown
where before was weak and hollow,
and when you woke up this morning,
something else was on your mind
because the old furniture had moved
around to make room.
A momentary alignment of planets
has opened a door somewhere.
You never know how or when,
only that it means
Everything.
